In shared mother treatments, remember that the intended birth mother should be registered as the patient on Fertility Consent.  This will ensure that the correct HFEA parenthood forms are allocated to the patient and partner.

If the intended birth mother changes, Fertility Consent must be updated to ensure the correct allocation of HFEA parenthood forms.

What is Shared Motherhood?

Shared motherhood, also known as reciprocal IVF or the ROPA method (Reception of Oocytes from Partner), is a fertility treatment for same-sex female couples where one partner provides the eggs (genetic mother) and the other carries the pregnancy (gestational/birth mother). It allows both partners to be biologically and physically involved in the child's conception and birth.
